How much does it cost to ride the bus?

What currency is accepted on Rider?
US currency only: change or $1, $5, $10 or $20 bills are accepted.

What if I don't have exact change?
Drivers and Fare Boxes cannot make change. If you do not have the correct change, the overpay amount will be added to a Fare Card that can be used on future rides.

Is my old Rider Bus Pass still good now that buses have new fare boxes?
Yes! Even though buses have new fare boxes, current Rider Bus Passes and Tokens will be accepted until the end of 2010 and are still available for purchase. New magnetic strip fare cards will be available when the new Transit Center opens (projected September, 2010).

What if it takes more than one bus ride to reach my destination?
You can get free a Transfer Pass for the next Rider bus, please request it from the driver as you board the bus. Transfer Passes are good for the next ride only and expire after 85 minutes.

Is Rider ADA accessible?
Yes, all Rider buses are ADA accessible. Be prepared to show your Reduced-Fare ID Card to receive discount rates. Priority Seating is available for persons with disabilities and senior citizens on the Rider vehicles.

*Reduced-Fare ID Card - who is elibible and where do I get one?
Rider Reduced-Fare ID Cards are needed to receive discounted rates when paying with cash or when purchasing a Reduced-Fare Rider Bus Pass. These cards are available to persons with disabilities, senior citizens 65 and over, and students who are currently enrolled in school. A Reduced-Fare ID Card is required for all discounted rates. Be prepared to show your Reduced-Fare ID to receive discount.

Qualified individuals can obtain a Reduced-Fare ID Card application online (print out and mail completed form to the address at the top of the form), at the City of Concord Municipal Building, 26 Union Street South; the City of Kannapolis City Hall, 246 Oak Avenue; RIDER Transit System Office, 135 Cabarrus Avenue East; and the City of Concord Public Housing Administration Office, 283 Harold Goodman Circle, S.W or request one be mailed or faxed to you by calling Rider Customer Care at 704.920.7433.

When do the buses run?
Monday through Friday from 5:30 AM until 8:30 PM, Saturday from 8:30 AM until 8:30 PM.

Buses leave the Davidson Drive Transfer Hub each hour on the half hour. Be sure to arrive at your bus stop at least 5 minutes early. To view and/or print out route schedules, go to Schedules.

5:30 AM at the Davidson Drive Transfer Hub Monday through Friday.

How do I know what route the bus is traveling?
Each route is designated by a different color. The Bus Stop Sign will indicate the appropriate route information and each bus will display the route name on the front and side. To view and/or print out route maps, go to Routes.

I’ve looked at the schedule and realize that the bus I catch does not take me to my destination, but there is another bus that will. Do I have to pay a second fare?
No, when you get on the bus ask the bus driver for a Transfer Pass, which is free. The Transfer Pass is good for the next available bus only.

What is a Transfer Pass and how do I use it?
A Transfer Pass is free and is used when more than one bus is required to get you to your destination. The Transfer Pass is valid on the next available bus only and expire after 85 minutes. To get a free Transfer Pass, please request it from the driver as you board the bus.

If, for example, you are on the Blue Route and your destination is on the Green Route, when you enter the Blue Route bus, ask for the Transfer Pass. When you get on the very next Green Route bus, give the Transfer Pass to the driver - and your ride is free!

What happens if I miss my transfer?
Your transfer pass is no longer valid. You can still catch the next bus, you just won't be able to use your Transfer Pass.

Where is the Transfer Hub?
The temporary Transfer Hub is located on Davidson Drive in Concord. A permanent location will be identified in the future.

There is also a Blue/Green Transfer Hub at the DSS/Cabarrus Health Alliance in Kannapolis connecting the Blue Route to the Davidson Drive Transfer Hub.

Where is the main terminal?
At this time, there is no main terminal, only the Transfer Hub located on Davidson Drive in Concord.

Are Rider buses accessible to persons with disabilities?
Yes. All Rider buses are ADA accessible. Doors open at curb level and priority seating has been designated for persons with disabilities. Other passengers are asked to allow persons with disabilities and senior citizens to sit in this area, even if it means that other passengers are required to change seats or to stand.

Mobility devices utilized by passengers must be secured in the Priority Seating area while on the bus.

Persons with disabilities should exit at the front of the bus.

A Reduced-Fare ID Card is needed to qualify for discount fares. Qualified individuals can obtain a Reduced-Fare ID Card application online (print out and mail completed form to the address at the top of the form), at the City Offices of Concord and Kannapolis or from Rider Customer Care at 704.920.RIDER.

For persons with disabilities, who cannot manuever the fixed route system, please contact the Complementary Paratransit System to determine if you are eligible for the paratransit door to door service. The Complementary Paratransit System can be contacted at 704.920.2246.

I am unable to ride the Rider bus, is there another option for me to get around town?
Those unable to navigate the fixed route system can possibly qualify for the Complementary Paratransit System door to door service. For more information, call 704.920.2246.

I have never ridden the bus before. Is there someone who can help me understand the schedules and the routes?

How do I let the driver know that I wish to get off?
Rider buses stop only at designated bus stops, drivers are not allowed to stop in between these designated stops. When the bus comes to a complete stop at the stop closest to your destination, exit by the rear doors. Persons with disabilities should exit at the front door, which is at curb level.

I lost an item on the bus, how can I get it back?
If you think that you left something on a Rider bus, please call 704.920 RIDER [7433]. Articles which are found on Rider vehicles are turned over to the Transit Administrator. Unclaimed articles will be discarded after 30 days.

My neighborhood is not on the bus route, will it be in the future? Other neighborhoods are being evaluated for future route expansion, so it's possible.

Can I take my bicycle on the bus?
Yes! The rack on the front of each Rider bus can accommodate 2 bikes.

Can I bring a baby stroller onto the bus?
Yes, strollers can be brought onto the bus, however children are not permitted to ride in strollers while on the bus. In addition, strollers must be closed and stowed safely while on the bus.

How can I make suggestions or comments about the operators and/or service?

Will Rider do special charters for groups?
No, federal regulations prohibit private use of federally funded transportation.

Does Rider connect with Concord Express?
Yes! Rider connects with Concord Express (80x-Concord Express) at Home Depot (Green Route), Concord Mills Mall (Red Route) and The Village/Big Lots (Purple Route). For Concord Express routes and schedules call 704.336.RIDE [7433].

Does Rider connect with Rowan Express?
Yes, starting in April 2009! The Rider–Rowan Express connection is at the Amtrak Train Station on the Brown Route and the Blue Route. Rowan Express can be reached at 704.216.8888.

Does Rider connect with Cabarrus County Transit System?
Yes, starting in April 2009! The Rider–CCTS connection is on the Green Route at Home Depot. Cabarrus County Transportation System will provide the connection. You must complete a CCTS Application (available on buses or by calling 704.920.2246) and riders must call 704.920.2246 to schedule a ride.
